About CreekConnect
CreekConnect is an on-going programming project for the students in Business Computer Programming III at Spruce Creek High School under the direction of Mrs. Dru Urquhart. The students use the skills they have learned in Programming I and Programming II and apply them to a real-world development scenario. The program has been created in modules. The students are given an idea for a module. They talk to possible end-users of the module (teachers, administrators, parents or students), come up with a plan for programming, design the user interface and database table structure, program the module, test the module and finally submit it to Mrs. Urquhart so that it can be interfaced with the main program and further tested and used by the end-users. This is a win-win situation for our students and our school. Our students are learning and applying high-end programming and database skills while developing a program that can be used by our school at no cost to our school.
Generally modules that are created during the school year are tested and implemented over the summer so that they can be used the next school year. We have recently added modules such as the message center, grade calculator, student planner, announcements, student reminders, behavior log, assignment tracker, school visitor tracker and many more. Although students do work on the programming and development of CreekConnect they do not maintain or have access to the database that holds the actual teacher or student information.
History
The idea for a service project that resulted in the creation of CreekConnect was concieved by Ross A. (Class of 2004), programming student and President of the Spruce Creek High School Technology Club.
